What we do
In order to meet the specific demands of the diverse markets that Via Afrika serves, we operate in five key areas.
- Printed books and educational materials for schools (all grades and subjects) and TVET colleges in South Africa.
- Digital textbooks and learning materials for schools.
- Training offered online and face-to-face, through the Via Afrika Digital Education Academy.
- Via Afrika Stimela produces materials for the adult education and training (AET) market.
- Collegium Publishers services education in Botswana.
Via Afrika continues to meet head-on the challenges presented by the transformation in education in South Africa, developing high-quality, innovative learning and teaching materials that are popular with both educators and learners in the classroom. The Via Afrika Series, specially developed for the CAPS curriculum, has achieved incredible success, and has the highest approval rate for a single series in the industry. The successful CAPS materials have added new titles to an already comprehensive backlist.
Via Afrika has been developing digital content for more than a decade, previously under the Future Entrepreneurs and Via Afrika Future imprints. Our high-quality educational material is currently being used by thousands of learners and teachers country-wide. The Via Afrika series was furthermore developed to be the first CAPS-aligned, eBooks series on the South African market. These eBooks are enhanced with additional material such as videos, slide shows, audio and simulations that can all be accessed without an internet connection on a PC or mobile device. Our eBooks have demonstrated the industry-leading place Via Afrika holds in the market.
The Via Afrika Digital Education Academy, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, aims to assist teachers to take control of their own education so that they can meet the new digital challenge face on, and be successful.
The Academy offers 72 two-hour sessions of Android or Windows tablet-based training across four course themes. The sessions range from beginner to advanced, so you are sure to find a session at your level that will start you on your way to digital education excellence.
The Academy also offers 9 two-hour sessions on implementing digital education in schools from a change management mindset.
What’s more, Via Afrika is pleased to be associated with the South African Council for Educators (SACE). It is SACE’s responsibility to enhance the status of the teaching profession through appropriate registration, management of Professional Development and inculcation of a Code of Ethics for all educators. We are proud to be able to assist in the area of Professional Development.
